Dear Editor,
Please allow me to express my abhorrence and disgust over the shameful exploitation of the educational accomplishments of our kids for the purpose of political masturbation by the Government in General, and the Minister of Education in particular. Further, the penchant for employing prevarication and mendacity as pillars of its propaganda campaign has been taken to new lows by the PPP regime.
And nowhere is this more recognizable than in the efforts to present as fact, the lie that the opposition has no praise for the children who excelled in the Caribbean Examinations. The only organizational entity in Guyana that displays an antipathy for Children is the PPP regime. And the evidence of that glaringly resides in the staggering number of them we see every day in the streets, homeless, begging or selling, struggling to eke out an existence on a daily basis, while those who perceive of themselves as Lords of the Manor opulently bask in luxurious splendor in Pradoville 1, and Pradoville 2, all at the expense of the poor and struggling masses.
One thing I’m sure the PPP and its propagandists know, and that is, the young folks are not easily brainwashed by empty talks coming from political chatterbox. The problem with the current regime and its leadership is that they tend to transfer the ordinary operations of their mindsets unto others, and read into people’s actions that which would come naturally to them if the positions were reversed. The Government needs to take a careful look around Guyana and take note that only those from within its fold engage in the kind of vile and common cussing down of those with whom they might have a disagreement.
Further, I will argue that those who are prone to engage in these kinds of loathsome behaviors are far more likely to be hating on Children than those who, despite being exposed to the most egregious and obscene abuses of power, continue to conduct themselves with decency and decorum befitting their official positions.
The Government of Guyana, its Ministers and Associates, including some in the Private Sector, behave as though they are privileged juvenile delinquents rebelling against the orderly constraints everyone else in the society in which they live have to abide with. In every democratic society a Government must transparently account to the people for how it distributes its resources. But not so this regime.
They act as though the electoral process that brought them into Governance also bequeathed to them the keys of the kingdom, in a manner of speaking, and they can do what they like, when they like, and how they like.
And whether it is Skeldon, the Berbice River Bridge, the Marriot or Amaila, the Construction and Management of these projects always seem to financially benefit those who are associated with the regime, and imperil the future of the masses who are being stuck with the bill.
If the Government of Guyana spent as much time as it does cooking up shady deals and presenting them for public finance wrapped in deep secrecy, assiduously working to develop a climate of opportunity in the nation, Guyana would be way forward of its current situation.
But not this bunch. If there was an award being offered for regimes in poor nations who contributed to the employment and enrichment opportunities to people in more affluent nations, the Government of Guyana would qualify for the Gold Medal. Because this is seemingly what it does best. Whether you are from Kentucky, China or any other place more developed than Guyana, the odds are in your favor that you will get concessions that would be unavailable to Guyanese if they were to seek them from whence you came. But if you are from Guyana, so sorry, you are screwed.
