– focused on winning National Schools’ C/ships title
Upper Demerara-Kwakwani, District 10, fired back yesterday when they stated that their focus is not on any one District, or more specifically, arch rivals, North Georgetown, but will be coming to do their best at the 2013 National Schools Championships.
The Guyana Teachers’ Union/Ministry of Education/Digicel- sponsored 53rd National Schools’ Cycling, Swimming and Track and Field Championships will get underway during November 19 – 22, at the Guyana National Stadium at Providence, East Bank.
District 10 Manager, Renaldo Crawford revealed yesterday that his
team is not focused on rivals, but rather on winning. His remark was in direct response to District 11 boasts of regaining their title at the highest level of schools’ sport in Guyana.
“We don’t have no focus on them (District 11) or any other team. To be honest, we just want to have good competition and we are coming to compete and may the best team win in the end,” Crawford said, adding that they will be prepared for battle.
He informed that their team is already selected and in training for the event and should have no problem in competing with the titans. “We are coming with a full compliment in all the aspects and so far the training is coming along good, the athletes are out and training hard,” Crawford noted.
The Upper Demerara-Kwakwani Team Manager also related that the successful District has not been facing any issues in preparation for the meet, as he indicated that everything for the team’s success has been adequately provided.
For the past 33 years, the two Districts have dominated the event; North Georgetown and Upper Demerara River have transformed the nationwide battle into a dual contest for bragging rights and more importantly, the right to claim their District as the nursery for the development of the three disciplines, cycling, swimming and athletics.
Both Districts have combined for a total of 26 victories with the two arch rivals evenly splitting the win percentage. In the last six years, District 11 came out on top four times and is defending champions while District 10 has taken five titles in the last nine years.
So what will happen this year when the two titans clash at the Guyana National Stadium? Will North Georgetown taunt Upper Demerara with its usual antics or will Upper Demerara stun the confident Georgetown team? Will there be a new champion overall since Corentyne continue to knock on the door? All those questions will be answered in three weeks.
