The team is full of confidence, according to Manager/Player Terry Mathura as they already began vigorous preparations for the tour of Guyana.
Ontario Softball Cricket league (OSCL) team will join other North American sides to compete at the Guyana Softball Cup 111 which is set to commence on November 8 in Georgetown under the auspices of the Guyana Floodlight Softball Cricket Association (GFSCA).
“I [am] definitely confident that our players will do well in Guyana; they have shown a lot of enthusiasm and determination to make an impression down there so we are in good shape,” Mathura, the current vice-president of the Ontario Softball Cricket League (OSCL), related.
Canada will participate in the opening 20-over category and Mathura believes his group of boys is accustomed to play the longer version and that will certainly propel their optimism of bringing back the championship trophy.
He also reserved special mention to the GSFCA for their invitation and this wonderful gesture to get them participated among some of the top softball players and they are willing to maximize on the opportunity.
“We have been preparing very hard since the selection of the side with the players who are available because other senior players can’t make it due to their work commitment and personal reasons, however, we have several players down in Guyana who would come to Canada and play in our league and we will use them there, while we must thank the GFSCA for inviting and hosting us,” Mathura declared.
The side will begin their quest for supremacy against arch-rivals New York in the first set of preliminary round matches while the competition will conclude on Sunday, November 11 with the grand finale at the world famous and former international venue Bourda. Mathura also took the opportunity to say the team was selected based on the performances in the recently concluded OSCL various and annual competitions.
He will be accompanied by OSCL president Albert Ramcharran, who will perform the duty as the Communication Officer while Vish Jadunauth, another senior executive of OSCL, will be the team’s coordinator. Other representatives from the league to be in Guyana will be Statistician Patrick Shivrattan and West End cricket coordinator Ryan Bhup.
He further mentioned that the OSCL wants to thank the different sponsors for making their trip to Guyana a reality and SWK for the uniforms. Meanwhile, the winning team will receive a monetary prize of $800, 000 and a trophy while the runners-up carting off $200, 000 and a trophy. Several individual prizes are also up for grabs.
