Sponsor Kevin “Kevy” Henry hailed the late Wilbur Hope as a mentor for many youngsters in Berbice. Henry, a member of the US Army, stated that Hope was very inspirational in the development of many young footballers and sportsmen in the town of New Amsterdam. He stated that Wilbur was one who would always called them and talk to them. When we are liming on the streets he would encourage us to get involved in productive activities, games, our books or community activities that would benefit us in the future. I was really touched by him. As a National Player (football, athletics) he was always there to give advice and to assist many of the young boys in Tucber Park, New Amsterdam area. As a coach he was able to help several players to make it to the level to represent Guyana.
Today BHS oppose TASS and VESS match skills with CSS, while Monday 4th, BHS goes up against BEI and NAMS playing VESS.
The final preliminary games are slated for the 5th November with TASS and SON contesting the first game followed by the matchup between CSS and NATI. The top four schools will advance to the semifinals and subsequent final which is slated for Thursday 7th November.
At the end of the preliminary rounds No1 will play No4 and No 2 and 3 will clash for a place in the final which will be preceded by the third place play off.
The top four teams will be adequately rewarded with trophies, medals and other prizes, while the top individual players will also be presented with accolades. The competition is being coordinated by Neil ‘Grizzly’ Humphrey (Samuel Whyte)
