Visiting Guyanese robbed hours after touching down at CJIA

The holiday plans of two overseas-based Guyanese were shattered when bandits attacked them just after they had touched down in the land of their birth.
The two men Sureshpaul Latchman, 28 and Baldeo Latchman, 44, were pounced upon by bandits just as they were about to enter the relatives’ home at Hope West, Enmore, East Coast Demerara, around 22:00 hours.
Two of their hosts, Mohan Latchman and Brijmohan Latchman were also attacked when they went to their assistance.
Reports reaching this newspaper stated that the two visitors were picked up at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri, by the two other victims earlier on Tuesday night.
Just as they arrived at their destination three men who were waiting in a car attacked them.
Two of the men were carrying guns. They relieved the Latchmans of four cellular phones, a gold chain, and two wallets containing cash and documents.
In the process, Brijmohan Latchman sustained injuries to his head after he was gunbutted when he tried to put up resistance.
Police are probing how the bandits were able to know exactly where the visitors were going, especially since they had given a different address when they entered Guyana.
It was widely believed that the bandits were working in collaboration with persons at the airport who would inform them of the intended addresses of incoming passengers so that they can smoothly carry out their robberies.
However, in this recent case the police are almost convinced that it was an inside job.
Meanwhile, police officials divulged that similar instances of robbery were reported recently, and as such, they will be monitoring all of the CJIA early morning flights, especially with the expected increase in visitors for the upcoming Christmas season in mind.
According to a senior police official, they will try to synchronise their patrols and roadblocks between the time the flights arrived to the estimated time that the passengers should reach their destinations.

These bandits are not magicians to know who is coming into guyana and when they are coming into guyana and where they are staying, what happens here is the big mouth show off family who spread the information to all and sundry in their neighbourhood, “meh family ah come from d states and a sure he gon bring ting” and the wrong people get to hear and plan the robbery.
These people don’t mean bad they just don’t realize that loose lips sink ships, and regardless of the papers posting these articles they still go and repeat the same thing over and over.

Is there any way the telephone companies could assist with the police investigations in regards of tracking calls originating from the airport? IT’s a sad and painful ordeal experiencing such gruesome acts.
