Twenty four year old Guyanese Ryan Banwarie scored 93 marks to top the Caribbean in the 2013 West
Indies Cricket Umpires’ Association (WICUA) final written examination. There was one hundred percent success for all sixty one candidates that wrote the exam.
The other Guyanese that were successful are Chattnarine Persaud of West Bank Demerara, Sargeant Major\Warrant Officer of the Guyana Defense Force Leyland Liverpool, Deo Fedssai of Georgetown and Shameer Hussain of Essequibo. However, Vijaya Prakash Mallela of the United States secured 97.5 marks to be the top candidate overall.
In an invited comment Banwarie said he is happy with his performance and that he worked very hard to achieve it. He stated that he is now preparing for the Oral and Practical exams and would like to thank the members of the Georgetown Cricket Umpires Council especially Eddie Nicholls, Nigel Dugid, Shannon Crawford, Colin Alfred and Matthew Kissoon.
