A 63-year-old landlord who threatened to “lash” his tenant was yesterday fined $20,000 by Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Clyde Morris Trotman pleaded guilty to the charge whose particulars alleged that on October 23, at James Street, Albouystown, he used threatening language to Claudine Bobb.
According to the report given by Prosecutor Vishnu Hunt in open court, Bobb is a tenant of the defendant. Hunt explained that about 17:30hrs on the said date, Bob returned from work and discovered that her apartment had no electricity.
The court heard that Bobb then went to the landlord to inquire about the situation and the landlord in turn requested rent owed by the defendant and in the process threatened to lash her in the face with a beer bottle.
Hunt stated that the matter was then reported to the police which led to Trotman being arrested and charged.
Magistrate Judy Latchman offered the man two options: to either pay the fine immediately or serve six months in prison. Trotman opted to pay the fine.
