West Indies A team left hander Assad Fudadin believes the future of West Indies cricket is in good hands. He was speaking with Kaieteur Sport recently after his return from the Regional A Team Tour to India where they drew the Three Match unofficial Test series 1-1.
Fudadin stated that he was impressed with the players’ attitude on tour. “The group of players showed that they love the game and they were willing to learn and I am happy about that”, he added.
On tour, Fudadin scored 248 runs from five innings with a highest score of 86 not out at an average 82.66.
He said the players showed confidence and supported each other. “We have a number of talented young players in the Caribbean and this shows that we can be the number one team in world cricket once again”, he said.
He pointed out that he is pleased with his performance. “I must thank Almighty Allah to make it easy for me. I don’t set myself big goals, but take each game session by session. I bat according to the match situation and I’m comfortable with my form at the moment”, he stated.
Fudadin who plays for Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club informed that the Indian conditions are more suited for the batsmen. “It was my first experience playing there, the conditions are good for batting, once you get in you can score lots of runs. It was a good experience playing in front of the big crowds, they are very passionate about the game and I admired the way they reacted to the players. Although we were on the opposing team we were cheered for almost every move”, Fudadin pointed out.
He said that his fellow Guyanese Narsingh Deonarine, Leon Johnson and Veerasammy Permaul were also impressive. Fudadin informed that he is now preparing for the Senior Inter County Four Day tournament which is expected to commence in November. He stated that he wants to support the younger players and help Guyana’s cricket develop.
