No one could deny that Superbike racing has made a strong resurgence over the past four years after a period that saw few riders demonstrating an eagerness to take to the track to compete in organised racing.
Thanks to the bold initiatives taken by several past administrations of the Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club (GMR&SC) the Superbike segment of the sport has now become a staple on the
Programme of Race Meets and a feature that many fans enthusiastically look forward to.
Come November 24 when Guyana host the final leg of the Caribbean Motor Racing Championship (CMRC) there is no doubt that the local daredevils will once again be aiming to thrill the fans with their skill and daredevilry that has now been embraced by a vast majority of fans who will turn up at the South Dakota Circuit fro the final showdown in the Region’s premier motor racing Series.
Guyana’s quest for regional supremacy will be spearheaded by Stephen ‘Valentino Rossi’ Vieira, who has represented this country with much success against his fellow counterparts from the Caribbean.
This country has a long history of producing racers of high quality and one just have to remember the likes of Lawrence Van Sertima, Johnny Thijs, Kevin Jeffrey, Terrence Clarke, just to name a few and Vieira has followed in their footsteps, dominating the Region for a couple of years now.
Vieira as many would know learned a lot from the expertise of Canadian Kevin Graham in his early years which has helped him develop into a speed monster, becoming the most dominant rider on the regional circuit since and while he has not been at his best this year, his vast experience will definitely make him favourtite to regain the mantle of the best in the Caribbean.
Then there is the in-form Joel Neblett, who many regard as a superb rider, but one who has not given justice to his immense talent until this year.
Neblett currently leads the point’s race for the local riders and now seems to be enjoying the sport once again and he cannot be taken out of the equation when the argument as to who will most likely dominate the day is asked.
After them, Maurice Menezes is the next rider with some amount of regional exposure and he too possesses admirable talent, but so far has not been able to fulfill that gift. Could it be a breakout Meet for him on November 24, only time will tell if he has the fortitude to come out of the shadows of Vieira and Neblett.
Carey Griffith and Ricardo Fagundes have been admirably consistent over the past year and a half showing gradual improvement all along and they too are expected to feature on race day so fans could expect keen and exciting rivalry.
The younger brigade of Nikhil Seereram and Matthew Vieira are two of the most exciting riders that display skill and dexterity that belie their age and their raid improvement has not gone unnoticed and must be counted in the reckoning as having legitimate chances of upstaging their more established rivals.
The Ministry of Tourism which has been on board for the past three years will once again partner the GMR&SC in an event that has evolved into a major sport tourism attraction. GT&T, Seaboard Marine, Valvoline, Banks Beer and Kings Jewellery World are the major sponsors for this event.
