The leading exponents in the sport of bodybuilding are expected to be involved at some level when Total Fitness Gym of Soesdyke, East Band Demerara brings for the first time, Muscle Explosion which is set for Kaylee’s Resort on Saturday November 9, 2013.
Back to back Central American and Caribbean (CAC) gold medalist Devon Davis of the Guyana Defence Force Gym will be one of the leading athletes for the title of Mr. Muscle Explosion.
But, while Davis has hit the bodybuilding stage by storm and has been holding his own, many of his more senior rivals will be coming out to also stake a claim for the top prize and bragging rights come November 9.
Set to be back after a five year hiatus is former Mr. Guyana Oswin Jones, Alfred Jordan will also be returning to the competitive stage after a similar amount of time away. Another Mr. Guyana, Clint Duke has made his intentions known that he too will be on stage; his presence will certainly add excitement to an evening that is anticipated to be riveting in every regard.
With the aim of taking the sport to untapped areas, giving fans the opportunity to witness firsthand the experts in the business, organiser of the show, Videsh Sookram, Manager of Total Fitness Gym is promising that fans will not be disappointed.
Male athletes will first aim to rule the roost in their respective categories – Under 143, Under-155, Under-165, Under 176 and Over 176 with the respective winners then aiming for the bigger prize in the Overall Pose Down.
Ladies will have their chance to shine also when they compete in the Ms. Bikini contest. To date, five beautiful ladies have signaled their intention to take part.
In an invited comment, Devon Davis who won gold in the 132lb category at this year’s CAC championships held in the Dominican Republic, a feat he also accomplished last year in Puerto Rico, said that he is looking forward to competing at this event noting that the idea of taking a show to this area is commendable.
Davis, who normally competes at the 143lb level in Guyana, said that he is aiming for a
higher category (153) for this show.
“I want to try in a higher weight division, last week when I weighed I was over 150 and this week I came below that, I want to believe that my body is so a tuned to competing that it breaks down to the traditional weight whenever it knows that I am competing. So we will see how it goes, but yes, I am looking forward to November 9.”
Reigning Mr. Guyana, Kerwyn Clarke has confirmed that he will be the guest poser for the show and has promised to entertain the fans.
Corporate support for the event has so far come from Fitness Express, Digital Technology, Al Haaq BBQ & Grill, Gas and Go Gas Station, Kaylee’s Gas Station, Sterling Products, V&A General Store and American Closet.
