The 37-year-old cigarette vendor, who was shot last Sunday evening, said that his attacker may have been a paid “hit man.”
Troy Bacchus, of West Ruimveldt, Housing Scheme was shot three times in his thighs (once to the right and twice in his left thigh) around 20:00hrs on Sunday outside his stand in Orange Walk, Bourda by a lone gunman dressed in black.
Bacchus was discharged from the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) early yesterday; but has to return to remove the bullet from his right thigh.
During an interview with Bacchus, he recalled standing in front of his stand, fixing his television set when he was shot.
“I was fixing the TV and then I hear the loud explosion but I thought it was a squib so I didn’t pay attention until I heard the second one and feel a ‘sting’ and when I turn, the man with the gun turn away but was still shooting so I started to run,” Bacchus said.
Bacchus explained that he ran into Regent Street and jumped in a taxi, without looking back at his attacker. “I don’t know what happened after; I just run and ask the taxi driver to take me to the hospital.”
The 37-year-old man believes another vendor had “something to do” with the shooting and has already provided investigators with this information.
“This guy always got some problem with me. One time we had a disagreement and since then he always throwing some hint and telling people what he will do to me,” Bacchus posited.
He explained that before he was attacked, the “vendor” was on his cellular phone communicating with someone but vanished when he was attacked.
The injured man said he has no other known enemies but told Kaieteur News that his brother, Kenrick Duncan was remanded to prison a few months ago for allegedly robbing a Charlotte Street Chinese store.
