The vendor whose throat was slit Saturday morning by her jealous ex-lover is in a stable condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), waiting to be moved to the Female Surgical Ward, once a bed becomes available.
Yesterday, this newspaper was informed that the 45-year-old Denise Hope is in a stable condition in the recovery room of the operating theatre where she has been since undergoing emergency surgery last Saturday. “They don’t have a bed so she has to wait there (theatre) until they get one,” a relative said.
Hope of Tucville, Georgetown, was rushed to the medical institution on Saturday after her ex-lover, Godfrey Lammy slit her throat and stabbed her multiple times about her body.
Lammy, a former member of the Georgetown City Constabulary immediately fled the scene after he attacked his lover, but was subsequently arrested at Sister’s Village, West Bank Demerara.
Calls to the hospital’s Chief Executive Officer Michael Khan for a comment on the situation, went unanswered.
Around 06:30 am last Saturday, Hope was heading to her vending spot on Regent Street when Lammy ‘suddenly’ appeared in front of her, wearing a black hooded vest and hugged her.
After Hope called out for help, “he (Lammy) pulled out the knife and start stab her and then run away,” an eyewitness recalled.
Two months ago, Lammy was ordered by the court to stay 150 feet away from the now injured woman.
