Members of the newly formed Motor Racing Competitors Association of Guyana (MRCAG) are calling for a reduction of the high cost of membership fees. A release from the MRCAG stated that the Association has to date signed up seventy seven members consisting of motor racers, mechanics and fans of the sport.
The release indicated that the MRCAG, last Wednesday delivered a proposal signed by 35 drivers requesting a meeting with the GMR&SC to discuss matter of importance raised by the members. Some of those concerns are;
1. 30% of the profit after VAT to be shared out as prize money to the competitors.
2. A reduction of the exceptionally high membership fee to accommodate members without huge incomes, this has led to a massive reduction in the membership.
3. Any changes to the rules must be brought to the drivers and can only be changed if seventy five percent of the drivers agree to the changes.
4. Should the club not see it fit to arrange a meeting with the MRCAG, we will have no other option but to ask our drivers and riders to boycott the November 24 event.
According to the Chairman of the MRCAG, Bryan Mackintosh, the MRCAG has the ability through financial and life members of the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMRSC) to call an extraordinary meeting and fire the current executive of the GMRSC but they are hoping that will be able to meet with the motor racing club to iron out their differences.
Meanwhile, the MRCAG is continuing its membership drive and is inviting motor racing fans to join the association to foster bonds to enable the sport to grow.
MRCAG is in the process of arranging a meeting with the Minister of Sport Dr. Frank Anthony.
