Dear Editor,
It is encouraging to see Malcolm Harripaul has added his voice to those who claim to know Linden Forbes Sampson Burnham assassinated Walter Rodney (KN October 27).
The PPP government on June 13 promised to establish the Independent International Commission of Enquiry, approved by the National Assembly in 2005. From following the news, the impression is given steps are being put in place to have this enquiry.
It is said, s/he who accuses has the burden of proof. And it is hoped those who over the years have professed knowledge on this matter will voluntarily be among the first to appear before the commission.
The commission should do a Google search, identity those who said Burnham assassinated Rodney, and if they do not voluntarily turn up, they should be subpoenaed to lead evidence. It is further hoped their evidence would be able to withstand scrutiny to prove their claim and not waste the commission’s time and taxpayers’ money.
This society needs closure on the Burnham/Rodney issue and the persons who for years have claimed to possess knowledge on this matter, they are promised a judicial forum to unburden their souls. Here’s hoping the claim to such knowledge is not one that has been propelled by showmanship, the desire for relevance, or built on conjectures.
Justice must be served in Rodney’s death.
