Understandably not as high profile and flambouyont as his fellow countryman Doug ‘Hollywood’ Gore, nevertheless, Group 4 speedster Peter Rae (PR) is determined to be part of the limelight when the final leg of the Caribbean Motor Racing Championship is staged on November 24, at the South Dakota Circuit.
Rae, who pilots a 1991 Mazda RX 7 monster, has indicated that even though he is expected to lend support to the CMRC Points leader Gore, he will also be looking for individual glory and will be going al out to achieve such an ambition, while admitting that it will be no easy task to upstage his teammate’s Audi TT touted to be the fastest car in the Region.
Recently, a member of the Organising Committee (MOC) posed a few questions to the Jamaican racer about his preparations for the upcoming Meet and here is what he had to say.
MOC- Tell me a little bit about how you prepare for such a big event as the CMRC:-
PR-I’m not a gym lover, I stick to jogging, I’m very active in karting – training drivers and I sometimes drive to keep up the quick reflexes needed in racing!
MOC-Who do you consider being among your biggest rivals from Guyana?
PR-I don’t take any one of your drivers for granted, competition is in all quarters, in particular Kevin Jeffrey, Mark Vieira and Andrew King.
MOC-What can the fans expect in terms of your performance come November 24?
PR-The picture of ‘Zoom Zoom’ (my car) on the dyno says it all….lots of flames and renewed pace (frighteningly fast) at the last Dover event will give my fans lots to talk about!
MOC- Tell us a little about the car’s data:
PR- It is a 1991 Mazda RX7 tube frame aka ‘Zoom Zoom’ powered by 12a ( motor) turbo charged 406 whp @14psi boost.
MOC- What is your best finish to date in the CMRC at South Dakota Circuit?
PR-2012 CMRC 2nd place final race having posted fastest lap time in the race.
MOC- How did the phrase ‘ZOOM ZOOM’ come about?
PR- Well as we all know of the Mazda slogan, a close friend Willy Worton was the one who coined it of me as he was the person who persuaded me to leave piston power and join him in a ‘roach’
MOC- Speaking about rivals from Jamaica, who would you describe as your biggest one?
PR-My arch rival has always been David Summerbell Jnr, especially that I have joined the boost brigade!
MOC- Give me your thoughts about the South Dakota Circuit:
PR-The track more suits that of the rotary, especially with the new surface; fast sweeping corners. But most of all the love of motor racing by the fans and the camaraderie exhibited by fellow competitors!
MOC- Describe Guyana in one word:
PR- Amazing!
MOC- Why do you always return?
PR-It’s beautiful and to try to win the CMRC championship.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Tourism which has been on board for the past three years will once again partner the GMR&SC in an event that has evolved into a major sport tourism attraction.
GT&T, Seaboard Marine, Valvoline, Banks Beer and Kings Jewellery World are the major sponsors for this event.
