Chairman of Banks DIH Limited, Mr. Clifford Reis, commissioned a state-of-the-art children’s play park on Sunday at Kent Street, New Amsterdam.
The new facility, which boasts brand new equipment and surroundings that match international standards, was moved to the location which formerly housed the Demico Patio and Bar.
Construction will begin shortly in the play park’s former location (just next to the New Amsterdam ‘Qik Serv’) for the new branch of Citizen’s Bank as Banks continues to expand its services.
Mayor of New Amsterdam, Claude Henry, said that it was “nice of Banks DIH to come” and do the initiative. He said that these are the kinds of things he wants to see happening in the town. “Banks has done it again! And one may argue that play is a fundamental need—I said ‘play’ and not ‘recreation’—because healthy play can develop one’s mind and body…healthy bodies and healthy minds create healthy communities.”
Henry thanked the corporate giant for investing in New Amsterdam over the past years.
Mr. Shabir Hussain, Director of Engineering Services at Banks DIH, said that in another two to three weeks, the company will be “breaking the ground” to start the construction of the new bank.
Hussain added that the company is always concerned about the welfare of the people in the community.
“It’s a massive investment; it’s a top class, top quality facility and it is an expression of the confidence of the people in Berbice and also in the economy of Berbice,” he said of the play park.
He hopes that the facility will be cared for especially by those who will be using it on a daily basis. Also at the facility is a counter of the New Amsterdam ‘Qik Serv’ Restaurant.
He urged, too, that the children be supervised while using the facility, “and the reason why we have the counter at that area is that parents would not need to leave their children unsupervised.” The immaculate facility boasts slides and swings.
The design was done by Shelwin Williams, the head of Marsters Enterprises Limited while the RCD Services out of Florida was used to procure the equipment. Mr. Dwayne Ferdinand of Home Designs and Construction of New Amsterdam and the Engineer of Banks DIH then proceeded to construct the facility.
“We ask that parents and children care the facility when they go there, as long as they care it, they will encourage us to do more and more for the community.”
Also present at the commissioning were Area Manager of Banks DIH, Mr. Reginald Matthews who was very delighted at the facility’s completion.
There were Marketing Manager (Berbice Branch), Joshua Torrezao, and Communications Manager Troy Peters among other company executives and special invitees.
The children and their parents were treated to scrumptious ‘Qik Serv’ snacks and ice- cream cones after which they were the privileged few to enjoy playing on the new equipment.
