A 37-year-old cigarette vendor survived an apparent execution attempt at around 20:00 hrs last night at the hands of a lone gunmen outside his stand in Orange Walk, Bourda.
Troy Bacchus, of West Ruimveldt, Housing Scheme, was shot in the thighs, allegedly by a man who was clad in black, while he and his wife, Natasha Bacchus, were selling at their Bourda Market stand. He was admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation in a stable condition.
Natasha Bacchus told Kaieteur News that her spouse was facing the door to his stand when she heard gunshots.
Ms. Bacchus said that she then saw a man, who was wearing a black toque, black gloves and black clothing, shooting at her husband. She said that after firing three shots, the gunman calmly walked away.
Kaieteur News understands that the wounded vendor managed to flee the scene and catch a taxi, which took him to the GPHC.
The gunman made no attempt to rob the couple and Mrs. Bacchus believes that the individual intended to kill her husband. She said that while her spouse has no grievance with anyone, the man’s brother, 24-year-old Kenrick Duncan, was remanded a few months ago for allegedly robbing a Charlotte Street Chinese store.
It is alleged that on September 10, 2013, Duncan, of Stevedore Housing Scheme, together with person or persons unknown, whilst being armed with a gun, robbed Hu Yu Nan, the owner of Lisa’s General Store, of a quantity of foreign currency, electronics and jewellery that amounted to over $41M.
