President of Roraima Bikers Club (RBC) Brian Allen, the organizers along with the Guyana Cycling Federation (GCF) of the Digicel Breast Cancer Awareness Cycle Road Race, Brian Allen has disclosed that they will be pulling out all the stops to ensure that event is the best in every regard.
A series of meetings have been held with the relevant stakeholders with a view of ensuring that a top class even is had by all.
Allen revealed that eight (8) race Marshalls will be appointed while a similar amount of Official Cars will be assigned to assist with the smooth flow of the race which pedals off in the Bauxite Mining Town of Linden with the senior and junior categories.
All participating Clubs were expected to submit their lists of riders and Team Managers yesterday at the Technical meeting; the organisers are targeting 100 participants in this second edition.
Also being instituted by the organisers, is an official Feeding vehicle which can be utalised by all the teams during the Linden to Georgetown leg. The starters (Ladies, Veterans) from Splashmin’s Resort will be given their allocation of water before they commence.
Competitors and Team Management are asked to take note that the Feeding Zone closes at the Vlissengen Road/Carifesta Avenue junction on the downward journey. Anyone being fed after this will be disqualified.
The organisers are expected to meet with the Guyana Police Force today. Added measures for crowd control at the finish line (Carifesta Avenue) include extra barriers while non official vehicles will have to park on the Seawall road.
Only officials will be allowed on the southern side of the road at the finishing line while all Team and Management vehicles will have parking at the National Park Car Park.
Members of the public who will be coming out along the race route are asked to wear pink in support of Breast Cancer Awareness and to urge the riders on.
The starting point will be at the Five Corner on Sir David Rose Avenue (Mackenzie), continuing East along Sir David Rose Avenue, South onto the Linden Soesdyke Highway, South onto East Bank Public Road, East into Mandela Avenue turning at Distribution Services Limited (DSL) and continuing North on Mandela Avenue into Sheriff street, West onto Rupert Craig Highway, West into Public Road Kitty, West on Carifesta Avenue, South into Camp street, West on Thomas Lands, North into J.P Latchmansingh Highway, East into Carifesta Avenue.
Competitors will then ride the Outer Circuit of the National Park for two laps before the contest ends at the entrance of the National Park, Carifesta Avenue entrance; there is the route for the open and junior categories.
The female and veteran riders will pedal off at the entrance of Splashmin’s Fun Park on the Linden Soesdyke Highway, proceed North along the Linden Soesdyke Highway, South onto the East Bank Public Road, East into Mandela Avenue turning at Distribution Services Limited (DSL) and continuing North on Mandela Avenue into Sheriff street, West onto Rupert Craig Highway, West into Public Road Kitty, West on Carifesta Avenue, South into Camp street, West into Thomas Lands, North onto J.P Latchmansingh Highway, East into Carifesta Avenue.
They will also ride the outer circuit of the National Park for two laps before finishing at the entrance of the National Park, Carifesta Avenue.
Riders are asked to take note that transportation for Linden, which will be provided by Digicel, will leave their Office at Lot 8 Fort and Barrack Streets, Kingston, at 04:30hrs.
