A voir dire (trial within a trial) is expected to continue today in the double-murder re-trial of Cyon Collier.
Collier, called ‘Picture Boy’, is accused of the 2006 murder of East Coast Demerara brothers, Ray Walcott called ‘Sugar’ and Carl Andrews, called ‘Alo’. Yesterday Collier took to the witness box and gave a sworn statement.
He was later cross examined by Senior State Prosecutor Judith Gildharie-Mursalin. Collier’s lawyer, Lyndon Amsterdam, along with Prosecutor Mursalin, are also expected to make their submissions today before trial judge Navindra Singh.
If the judge rules in favor of the prosecution the main trial would then commence. Collier is facing his second trial for the matter which concluded in a hung jury last December.
A few police officers were called to give evidence in the voir dire. On Tuesday, Assistant Superintendent of Police Lyndon Lord and Deputy Superintendent of Police Michael Kingston were called to give evidence on behalf of the prosecution.
The voir dire is being conducted in the absence of the 12-member jury since the trial is to determine the admissibility of statements.
