The Annual Flying Ace Cycle Club ‘Track Attack’ One day cycling event against Domestic Violence was successfully held on Sunday at the Blairmont Community Centre Ground, West Bank Berbice.
The day’s activity was intense and very competitive. However former national junior cycling champion Neil Reece rode away with all the open events including the 20 laps’ race, the unknown distance and the Devil take the Hindmost. Alistair Griffith was the top cyclist in the junior and juvenile categories, winning four races. Marica Dick maintained her supremacy in the female category by winning both female events.
Apart from cycling, the day’s activity included a number of other events including athletics, football, cricket, volleyball and a number of novelty events.
Participants are drawn from all over Berbice including New Amsterdam, Canje, West Berbice and Corentyne. While a number of the participants who are presently preparing for the national school athletics, championship in November in Georgetown used the opportunity to warm up by putting in some good performances during the day.
Police B Division Commander, Assistant Commissioner Brian Joseph was among the persons who supported the event. Among others sponsors were -A. Ally’s and Sons, Hand in Hand, Berbice Bridge Company, Elwin Jones, Water Chris Hotel, Courts Guyana Inc, GEB Security, Attorney at Law Mursaline Bacchus, Assistant Commissioner Brian Joseph, Ganesh Singh, Watterson Catering Services, Water Chris Hotel, Campton Sparman, Lloyd and Kim’s Fashions, Businessman John Lewis, Art Sawmill, Darry Tulsi Construction, Alphonso Business Establishment, Feroze Grocery.
The top performers received cash, trophies and other prizes. The coordinator was cycling coach Randolph Roberts. Another event is being planned by the club shortly. (Samuel Whyte)
