Keshan Jagdeshwar, 27, of 36 Hampton Court, Essequibo, yesterday appeared before Magistrate Fabayo Azore where he faced the indictable charge of Felonious Wounding.
It is alleged that on October 21, at Port Kaituma, North West District, Jagdeshwar unlawfully and maliciously wounded Joseph Moore with intent to maim, disfigure, disable or cause grievous bodily harm.
According to the report given by Prosecutor Ramsahoye Rambajue in open court, the parties are known to each other.
The particulars of the charge stated that on the date in question, at about 15:00hrs, Moore, who was sitting at the Port Kaituma Water Front, North West District, was confronted by the defendant who inquired about some money owed to him.
The court heard that a heated argument ensued between the two men. The accused became annoyed and subsequently armed himself with a cutlass and dealt Moore a chop to the head.
Moore was rushed to the Port Kaituma hospital where he was examined and given a medical certificate.
Prosecutor Rambajue disclosed that the victim was inflicted with a deep laceration to the head with possible skull fracture to the occipital scalp.
Magistrate Fabayo Azore refused bail and the matter was adjourned to November 5.
