Following a significant decrease in revenue collection from several communities, Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) will be disconnecting defaulting customers countrywide for non-payment, according to GWI officials.
Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) has intensified its service disconnection activities. Customers who are found guilty of reconnecting their service illegally may be made to pay a tampering fee of $25,000 and a reconnection fee of $6,000 in order to have their service restored.
GWI has found a number of customers who have not paid for water in years. It was noted that customers who simply refuse to pay for their service will be the main focus of the current intense disconnection campaign.
The disconnection contractors have been instructed to disconnect immediately once the address corresponds with GWI’s disconnection list; no disconnection will be halted at the request of the customer; every effort should be made to pay before the disconnection team arrives.
The utility company further noted that it is imperative that customers understand the importance of paying for their service on time. The company noted that it is not their intention to disrupt any customer’s service but revenue must be collected for the service provided.
However, customers can pay their utility bill at payment agencies that include: Bill Express, Republic Bank, GBTI, Citizens Bank, Scotiabank and all Post Office locations.
GWI countrywide disconnection campaign continues indefinitely.
