City side THG Pacesetters will lead the Georgetown invasion numbering three clubs that will contest this year’s 4th Brusche’s Classic basketball championship which bounces off tomorrow with a lone fixture featuring the reigning champions Pacesetters against Amelia’s Ward Jets.
Last evening the Brushes’ Classic foundation briefed the teams on the rules of the tournament and handed out the fixtures which will see five Linden and three Georgetown teams battling it out for a first prize of $100,000 along with trophies, replicas and medals on offer.
Organizer Cloyde Brusche said that plans are going on stream for the grand opening.
The only Linden club to have won this tournament has been the Wismar Pistons and while that club has not been as strong as they were when they won in 2010, the second year of the tournament, Linden fans are hoping for a better showing where the two time champions Pacesetters will be hard pressed to capture a third title.
This tournament has been one put together by the Brusche’s Foundation, which in itself honours the three brothers Mike, Clifton and James, all United States-based former national players who have represented Guyana with distinction and now are putting back into the sport locally.
