A 42-year-old rice farmer, Teeka Persaud, formerly of Sparta Village, Essequibo Coast, died on Saturday, two days after falling from his veranda, at his Sparta home. Persaud sustained abdominal injuries.
According to medical reports, Persaud’s intestines were ruptured causing him to experience severe abdominal pains and massive internal bleeding, right up onto to the time of his death on Saturday.
Parbattie Persaud, the wife of the deceased, said from her Sparta home that shortly after 18:00 hours on Thursday her late husband Teeka Persaud was venturing to the upper stairs of his two flat house when he apparently slipped and fell downstairs on the concrete of his lower flat, being knocked unconscious.
Mrs. Persaud added that after her husband fell she raised an alarm and relatives picked him up and carried him inside the house where they tried to render first aid.
Her husband only regained consciousness for a while, Mrs. Persaud said, but complained of experiencing severe abdominal pains. The following day, Mrs. Persaud said that she was forced to transport her husband to the Suddie Public Hospital because his condition was gradually worsening.
At the Hospital, Mrs. Persaud said doctors proceeded to perform a complete body scan before conducting a two-hour emergency operation.
Mrs. Persaud further explained that a move was made to transport her husband to the Georgetown Public Hospital on Saturday. A grieving Mrs. Persaud said that later that evening her husband died.
Mr. Persaud is survived by his wife, Parbattie and three children, aged between 23 and 18. He is to be buried today.
