All Saints Primary, for the third consecutive year, ran away winners of the New Amsterdam Branch that also includes schools from the East Bank and West Canje areas, of the annual Inter Primary School Athletics Championship at the All Saints Scott Church Ground on Thursday.
In the end All Saints Primary was way ahead with 396 points. In second place was Edinburgh Primary with 247 points.
In the third position was St Theresa Primary with 220 points, ahead of St Aloysius Primary on 159 and School of the Nations on 139 points. Overwinning Primary scored 48 points, Friends Primary 16 points with Lochaber Primary of West Canje bringing up the rear with 14 points.
Among the top athletes on show were – The boys U-8 80 and 100M events was won by Trevon Williams of St Aloysius Primary with Shelema Semple taking the double among the girls.
The boys U-10 100 metre final was taken by Clifferin Williams of St Theresa Primary with Treselle Mathews of All Saints taking the girls race.
Meanwhile, Notya Alexander of Edinburgh Primary took the boys U-10 150 metre and Racwana Williams of All Saints ran away with the girls’ event. Joshua Hercules of New Amsterdam Multilateral (NAMS) won the boys U-12- 100 and 200M events. Diyante DeMattos also of NAMS won the girls 100M with Khandi Griffith winning the 200M version. NAMS did not compete as a school but registered its U-12 athletes in order for them to get the opportunity to participate.
The Inter Branch Competition, which will effectively be used to select the District teams to participate in the National school Athletics, Swimming and Cycling Championships, is expected to be held this week at a venue to be decided.
