Cotton Field and Anna Regina Multilateral School recorded victories when play in the Imam Bacchus and Sons Twenty\20 Schools cricket competition commenced last Saturday in Essequibo.
Playing at Imam Bacchus ground in Affiance, Cotton Field Secondary defeated Pomona United Secondary by 5 wickets in the day’s first encounter. Winning the toss and batting, Pomona Secondary made 134 for 5 in their allotted overs. Extras top scored with 61 while Rudy Dass made 52 not out (1×6, 6×4). Bowling for Cotton Field Secondary, J. Charles took 2-20 and A. Bholo 2-38.
In reply Cotton Field Secondary hit off the required runs in 16.3 overs for the loss of 4 wickets with Extras Contributing 51, R. Joseph scored 37 (7×4) and A. Bholo 24 (1×4); S. Dusraj and D. Thompson picked 2-17 each.
In the second game of the day, Anna Regina Multilateral School (ARMS) defeated Essequibo Islands Secondary by 22 runs. Anna Regina Multilateral School batted first after winning the toss and posted 142 for 5 in 20 overs. Extras contributed a healthy 35, Jonathan Fernandes made 26 (3×4), Nathan Persaud 21 (3×4) and Devon Williams 20 Not out (1×6,1×4). P. Persaud, Narendra Persaud, Beesham Moses and E. Gobin claimed 1 wicket apiece.
Essequibo Islands Secondary were bowled out for 121 in 17.3 overs in reply with Kemo Paul top scoring with 44, (9×4) while Extras supported with 20; Jevanand Chanderpaul captured 4-27, Siddique Mohamed and 2-12.
