Hemant Narine Shilchand known for selling rental cars, an occupied house without the knowledge of the occupant and other shady deals, is now wanted by lawmen across the country. Shilchand recently sold a rented Toyota IST (PRR 2622) to a South Sophia resident, Elvis Smith, on July 2, last for GY$1.5M.
Smith paid the con artist $850,000 cash and was supposed to pay the balance in installments within four months. However, when the Sophia resident tried to call Shilchand a few days later, Shilchand’s cellular phone was turned off.
After numerous failed attempts to call the confidence trickster, Smith realized that something was definitely wrong and decided to seek advice from his police friend, who after conducting an investigation, found out that Shilchand is wanted by the law for selling rented properties.
He is wanted for selling two other rented cars to persons in the city. He has also sold the house owned jointly with his wife, without her permission- that matter is in court. He has not paid support for his three children for the past three years.
Kaieteur News was also told that early this year, Shilchand sold a car to one of his relatives and then stole the registration papers along with the keys two days later and tried to sell the vehicle to someone else. Yesterday, Shilchand’s wife, Esther Persaud, said that the two were separated in 2010 after she found out that he was a confidence trickster.
“I move back with my mom with our three children and that’s when he sold our car without telling me and the car was in my name too. He also sold our house for $1.4M but that matter is in court,” Persaud stressed.
She also told this publication that her husband has conned a lot of people. “A lot of people coming from all over to meet me but I can’t do anything because he cheated me too.” This newspaper was informed that the confidence trickster is wanted at the Brickdam, Leonora, Parika and Mahaicony Police Stations.
