A fine allround performance by Richard Latiff guided Regal XI to a 30-run victory over Wolf Warriors in the Trophy Stall softball competition which continued yesterday at the GNIC ground.
Latiff blasted seven fours and four sixes in a top score of 74 as Regal XI posted 224-7 off their allotted 20 overs batting first in the open category. Navin Singh supported with 71 (10×4,1×6) while Vishnu Tamichandra claimed 3-17 and A. Azeem 2-44. Wolf Warriors threatened before they were bowled out for 194 in 18.1 overs in reply. Tamichandra scored 41, while D. Persaud supported with 33 and G. Singh 23. Mark Bobb, Khalid Haslim and Latiff captured 2 wickets each for Regal XI.
In the female category, Regal XI led by skipper Nalini Sumintra overcame Fazal Kayume XI by 9 wickets. Fazal Kayume XI took first strike and managed 59-6 off their allocation of 10 overs. G. Standford made 20; Sumintra picked up 3-7 for Regal Champs who replied with 63-1 in 6 overs. Sherryan Fraser top scored with an unbeaten 24 while Sumintra returned to hit 23 not out.
In the over-40 division, Regal Masters went down to Savage XI by 17 runs. Savage XI led by Yunnis Yusuf 51 (6×4,2×6), Talesh Ramoutar 48 ( 4×4,1×6), Rama Malone 37 and Fallim Mohamed 26 rattled up 215-5 in 20 overs batting first. Mahendra Chunilall took 2-37. Regal Masters responded with 198-5 in 20 overs. Mahendra Arjune stroked 75 not out (7×4,4×6) while Eric Thomas scored 37 ( 1×4,3×6) before he was needlessly run out and Raymond Harper made 26.
