The Guyana Football Federation/Banks Beer 2013/14 Premier League which got off to a rousing start last week in Linden is scheduled to resume today with three double headers, at Buxton, Den Amstel and GFC grounds.
Over at the Buxton Community Centre, BV/Triumph takes on Santos from 13:30hrs and this game will be followed by the clash between host Buxton United and Winners Connection.
The East Coast-based BV/Triumph side will be looking for solid performances from the experienced Delroy Deen, who many may know possesses the skill and stamina to mesmerise most defences and he is expected to be supported by the likes of Nickel Fraser, Quacey Price Uaan Grant and Kurt Abrams, all very good players.
Santos on the other hand has always proven to be formidale opponents and being one of the oldest clubs in the competition and one to have a rich history of outstanding achievements in the past will clearly aim to establish their superiority and maintain their illustrious record as being amongst the most successful teams in Guyana.
Glenorvan Edmonds, Jermain and Renault Fraser, Vashile Cantzlaar, Lennox Charles and Michael Pedro are all prolific goal scorers, who all have the skill and team chemistry to run riot over their opponents.
In the feature game, homesters Buxton United should start as clear favourites to beat Winners Connection and according to word from the community the players have been training tirelessly to perform at their optimum during the League.
Clive Andries, Keoma Sullivan, Travis Phyll, Denvor Dennis, Michael Phyll and Orson Washington will lead the team’s quest for a good start in the competition and will mean securing three points in front of the home fans, while Winners Connection will be relying on the services of Steve Brewley, Marlon Maximus, Marley Davidson, Behanzin Douglas and Ezra Ashby to lead their assault on the Buxtonians.
It promises to be a scorching affair and kick off time in the first match is 13:30hrs.
At the Den Amstel ground – Young Achievers tackles Mahaica Determinators and even though both teams are breaking into this high level of competition it is anticipated that they will give a good account of themselves.
Young Achievers have done well in their local competitions over on the West Demerara, while Mahaica Determinantors must have done likewise to gain the nod over the others teams for this prestigious League so naturally they should not be underestimated.
Dexroy Adams, Sherwayne Liverpool, Hakeem Norville, Lloyd Prince, Colin Garraway and Daren McLeod should be the players whose shoulders the bulk of the responsibility will rest on, while the West Berbice side’s chances of winning will no doubt be the task of Marlon McCurdy, Travis Porter, Royden Ramsey, Steve Petrie, Jonson Jack and Samuel Charles.
The marquee matchup between Den Amstel and Grove Hi Tech should be an explosive affair and choosing a winner seems to be an onerous undertaking. Both teams have tasted success in big competitions so playing on this stage is nothing new to them and the fans could be in for a treat.
Den Amstel will look to players the caliber of Rodwell Hutson, Prince Payne, Akeem Hector, Delon Lanferman, Orette Stephenson and Travis Hilliman to lead their charge for victory, while the visitors’ prospect for winning will depend on the services of Orson Francois, Colin Lancaster, Delroy Dodson, Clive Matthews, Moses Fraser, Rondell Alleyne and Nathaniel Pilgrim.
At the GFC ground, national champions Alpha United battles NA United and this encounter should be an easy one for the country’s best club and judging from their form recently, NA United might be in for a rough time.
The likes of Andrew Murray Jr., Gregory Richardson, Manasseh Primo, Anthony Abrams, Philbert Moffat, Kris Camacho, Bevon Moseley, Dwight Peters and Marvin Joseph pack enough firepower to threaten any defence, while the wily Quincy Madramootoo, Kelvin McKenzie and Sheldon Holder are all formidable players at the back and penetrating them could prove difficult.
The Western Tigers versus Rosignol United clash should once again favour the Georgetown-based side that looked progressively potent during the qualifying phase in the Georgetown Football Association playoffs and should start as favourites for this encounter.
Sherman David Solomon Austin, Trevon Lythcott, Dwayne Ali, Phillip Rowley, Hubert Pedro, Gavin Wilson Stellon David and Jerome Richardson have become household names in local football due to their abilities and consistency and should prove too formidable for the Berbicians.
Kelvin Joseph, Dwayne Hazel, Ron Lyken, Shkeel Grant, Jamaul Grant, Joshua Sinclair and Sherwin Halley will have to play ‘out of their skins’ to give their team a chance of beating the West Georgetown-based side. Kick off time is 18:00 hrs.
