Alwin Jones was yesterday brought before a City Magistrate at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court where he was made to face an assault charge.
Magistrate Fabayo Azore read the particulars of the charge which stated that on September 27 at Felix Austin Police College, the 18-year-old trainee officer, assaulted his colleague, Lenford Beete, 21, causing him actual bodily harm.
To the allegations, the defendant pleaded not guilty.
Court documents revealed that on the said date the defendant and his colleague, who are known to each other, were in their individual rooms preparing for a training session.
Beete then left his quarters and went over to the defendant’s and requested to borrow his electric iron.
The assailant refused, but the victim insisted on borrowing the item and proceeded to remove the iron from the ironing table.
Jones became annoyed and snatched the iron from the complainant’s hands.
He then took the iron which was previously plugged in and had retained some amount of heat, and pressed it several times against the back of the complainant.
The matter was subsequently reported and the defendant was arrested and charged.
Nevertheless, the defendant was granted bail to the tune of $25,000 and is expected to return on October 14 before Chief Magistrate Priya Beharry for report and fixture.
