A man who apparently fell asleep on the Spring Gardens Public Road died before he could have accessed medical attention.
Kumar Persaud, a/k”Dillip”, 58-year-old, formerly of Spring Gardens Old Road was allegedly under the influence and was walking home when he fell asleep on the eastern half of the Spring Gardens Public Road. Vehicle HB7258 which was proceeding south on the Essequibo Coast Public Road, allegedly crushed his head.
The labourer died before he could reach Hospital having sustained severe head injuries.
The driver was taken into custody for questioning.
Persaud’s death is just another in a series of fatalities on the Essequibo Public Road over the past month.
A 19-year-old Supenaam resident died in a similar manner. He too reportedly fell asleep on the Spring Gardens Public Road when a Canter truck ran over and killed him.
Most recently, a Hibernia woman who was venturing into the back dam to tend to her cattle died instantly after she was struck down on the Hibernia Public Road by a speeding driver.
The 21-year-old driver has since been charged with causing death by dangerous driving.
