The police are on the hunt for two men who on Thursday robbed a fish vendor who was on his way to purchase fish at Albion/Kilcoy foreshore Corentyne, Berbice.
According to information, about 13:00 hrs Harrynarine Singh, 56, a businessman of Number 75 Village Corentyne was driving his Canter truck along a dam on his way to the foreshore. He was accompanied by his nephew.
Singh a businessman would usually buy fish and fish glue and other fish products from the fishermen who would moor on the foreshore.
About halfway down the dam on a lonely spot, Singh saw two men dressed in uniforms similar to those worn by the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) and he thought it was soldiers on duty.
However, upon getting closer it was noticed that the men were wearing footwear different from those worn by soldiers. The men who were carrying a long gun and cutlass put on masks and proceeded to rob Singh and his nephew.
The men took away an undisclosed amount of cash, a cellular phone and a scale before making good their escape. The matter was reported to the Albion Police Station which is a stone’s throw away. The police responded and scoured the area, but came up empty handed.
Residents in the area reported seeing persons dressed in soldier like uniforms earlier in the day. No one has been arrested, as investigations continue.
