Travis Porter, 20, of Lot 504 West Ruimveldt, Georgetown, who is also known as “Cave Man” was yesterday remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Priya Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
He was answering an attempted murder charge and was not required to plead to the indictable charge.
The court heard that on September 23 at West Ruimveldt, the accused attempted to murder his 16-year-old cousin, Shamar Porter, who is a Surinamese.
Court documents revealed that on the date in question, at about 21:00hours, the accused and the complainant had a fight over a cellular phone.
Investigations later revealed that the fight started after victim had accused the defendant of stealing the said phone.
It was also noted that the defendant and his cousin had to be parted by a family member during the fight.
The defendant, who was not satisfied, then went for an object that still remains unknown to investigators, and slashed the complainant on the left side of his hand just as he turned his back after being parted from the scuffle.
After committing the act, the assailant fled the scene and went into hiding for several days. The victim, however, was hospitalized for more than a week.
After a search was conducted for the accused, he was eventually captured, and charged for the said offence.
He later admitted to police officers, whilst in their custody, that he did wound his cousin.
The unrepresented defendant was denied bail and is expected to return to court on October 18 for report and fixture.
