This car crashed into the canal at the Borlam Turn, Corentyne, shortly after 14:30 hrs yesterday. The driver, from Number 68 Village, Corentyne, and a female occupant luckily escaped unharmed. Reports suggest that the driver was under the influence of alcohol. Ranks from ‘B’ Division were on the scene taking statements. Residents told this newspaper that the driver “made a rash turn” and ended up in the waterway. They added, too, that luckily no one was fishing in the canal as is customary at that time of the day or lives might have been lost.
