$130,000 female contract killer nabbed after stabbing target

Two amateur would-be assassins, hired by a jealous ex-wife to murder her rival, panicked and fled after their victim’s screams sent neighbours racing to the victim’s Industry, East Coast Demerara home at around 11:00 hrs yesterday.

They were reportedly promised $130,000 to kill her, but the injured woman, a casino employee, managed to raise an alarm, which sent the would-be killers—identified as a 22-year-old second-year female UG student and her young male neighbour— bolting from her home.
After a brief chase, residents captured the fleeing woman, tied her up, and handed her over to the police. At press time, police were still trying to locate her accomplice and the ex-wife who resides at Seventh Field, Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara. They have also been unable to locate the woman’s husband.
Kaieteur News understands that the detained UG student has told police that the ex-wife had told her that Phillips was having an affair with her husband. The wife allegedly then promised the UG student $130,000 if she could “organize for someone” to kill Phillips. Kaieteur News understands that the UG student then contacted a neighbour known as “Shawn Boy” and told him about the job.
At around 11:00 hrs yesterday, the UG student and her alleged accomplice turned up at Linda Phillips’s home. According to one report, the student told Phillips that she wanted to discuss ‘the problem’ between Phillips and the jilted wife. But Kaieteur News was also told that the UG student gained entry by pretending to be a nurse providing blood pressure testing.
It is alleged that while the female suspect was conversing with Phillips, her accomplice began to stab their victim.
One resident recalled seeing two well-dressed persons arrive in a car and enter Phillips’ bottom flat apartment.
The eyewitness said that about 10 minutes later, residents heard Phillips screaming.
“We hear she shouting hard fuh help, so I left me house fuh go over and see wuh happen to she; then while ah come down the step ah see she open the door and a set ah blood just keep gushing out from she back,” the eyewitness said.

The man said that after making a few steps from her door, Phillips collapsed at her gate. Meanwhile, the two assailants were still in the house seeking a way of escape.
“One ah dem neighbours seh ‘watch dem’, so like four ah we run behind them and we ketch the girl because she foot fall in a hole through the alleyway,” the man said.
However, the woman’s accomplice managed to escape in the same car that had brought the suspects.
He said that the captured woman was wearing a pair of green latex gloves and had an empty syringe. According to the resident, the woman claimed that she had accompanied her male companion to Phillips’s house but was unaware of what was going to happen.
