…Neesa Gopaul’s mother, Picture Boy among high profile lot
The next Criminal Assizes session for the county of Demerara commences today in the High Court with 228 cases listed for hearings, including 56 Murder trials and 27 for Manslaughter.
Among the cases to be heard is that of Tyrone Rowe, called ‘Cobra’ who has already been sentenced to 78 years behind bars on a previous murder case. He now appears to answer charges of robbery under arms.
The State has also appealed the not guilty verdict of Sherwin Anthony Hyles who is accused in the Lusignan massacre and that case will also be called up today when the Assizes resumes.
The couple accused in the murder of 15 year-old Queen’s College Student, Neesa Gopaul, will also have their cases called up for hearing.
The dead teen’s mother Bibi Shareema Gopaul and her lover Jarvis Small called Barry have both been committed to stand trial for the gruesome murder that had shocked the nation.
Another of the high profile cases to take the stand during this session is that of Cyon Collier called ‘Picture Boy’ who is facing three separate murder charges. At the last assizes Collier was ordered to face a retrial.
Bissoondial Mahadeo, also called Weedman, Bibi Shamiza Khan and Bibi Farida Khan called Pum will all be tried for murder charges in this session.
They had been accused of killing US-based Guyanese, Motilall Singh in 2009 at Windsor Forest.
The High Court will also be tasked with hearing 58 cases of Carnal Knowledge. Some of the carnal knowledge accused are jointly charged with buggery.
Among those cases is that of former President of the Guyana Teachers Union, Colwyn King.
Michael Assanah, the driver of the minibus ‘Red Rat’, who was involved in the horrific smash causing the death of seven persons will also be called up for trial.
Those killed were Sewsankar Sewdat, Pamela Yaw, Sharon Lall, Sharon Simmons, Cheryl Primo, Leslyn Boucher and Leyland Prince.
