– Davis’ gold medal the high point – says GABBF President
Guyana representative senior team to the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Bodybuilding Championships in the Dominican Republic returned with three medals with Guyana Amateur Body Building Federation (GABBF) President labelling Devon Davis’ gold medal the high point of the tour.
The team and the GABBF yesterday hosted a press conference at Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) Headquarters in Kingston. The five-member team consisted of three athletes, including Davis, Alisha Fortune and Kerwin Clarke.
The trio won three medals with Davis picking up gold in the flyweight division, Clarke bronze in the welterweight division and Fortune bronze in the women’s Master’s division.
Guyana’s CAC Bodybuilding medallists, Alisha Fortune (second, left) and Devon Davis (fourth, left) pose with GABBF President, Keavon Bess (third, left) and other officials yesterday at GOA Headquarters following their return to Guyana.
GABBF President, Keavon Bess congratulated the athletes, noting that Davis’ success was the high point of Guyana’s participation, especially when the National Anthem was played as Davis mounted the podium to collect his gold medal.
CAC Judge, Frank Tucker, who was a part of the Guyanese delegation to assist with technical meetings heaped praises on the team. “I was surprised at the standard of our athletes at least we were able to be right up there with the other athletes,” he said.
“When I looked on stage at our athletes I felt very proud that we had taken athletes that were in good shape and who were well on top of their game,” Tucker added.
Davis and Fortune thanked their major sponsors for assisting them. Davis said that he was happy to defend his title. The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) bodybuilder, who has 27 parachute jumps, said he exuded a lot of confidence going into his routines.
