Berbice will face Essequibo in the final round of the Pepsi Inter-County 50-over cricket competition at Bourda today as they battle for a place in Sunday’s final against defending Champions Demerara at Albion.
In what should be another day of sweltering heat, Berbice will want to avoid an upset defeat today on what should be a pitch with variable bounce and a fast outfield.
Most of the players on this Essequibo team could be unaware of Essequibo’s last victory against Berbice at this level at Blairmont 17 years ago and they could be inspired by the fact that if they stage a rare win at this level they will advance to a historic final on Sunday.
A lot will depend on the opening partnership between Royan Fredericks and the shotgun Kevon Boddie while Anthony Adams, Ricardo Peters, Vishwanauth Lall, Kemo Paul, Vijai Surujpaul and Dellon Heyliger will all be required to contribute with the bat.
Berbice will bank on Sewnarine Chattergoon, Jonathan Foo and Anthony Bramble with the bat and Keon Joseph and Devendra Bishoo with the ball. The match starts at 09:15hrs.
Berbice squad:
Sewnarine Chattergoon (Captain), Devendra Bishoo (Vice Captain), Kandasammy Surujnarine, Jonathan Foo, Rajiv Ivan, Anthony Bramble (Wicket keeper), Anthony D’Andrade, Devon Clements, Joemal La Fleur, Romario Shepherd, Keon Joseph, Eon Hooper, Krishnadat Ramoo, Kevin Ramdeen.
Essequibo Squad: Royan Fredericks (Capt), Anthony Adams (vice Capt.), Kevon Boddie, Ricardo Peters, Herry Greene, Mark Tyrll, Vishwanauth Lall, Sheldon Alexander, Vijai Surujpaul, Kemo Paul, Jason Heyliger, Dellon Heyliger, Gilford Moore, (Coach) Vibert Johnson, (Manager) Aotto Christiani
