Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) is continuing with the upgrade of sewerage pump stations and the installation of delivery mains under the Government of Guyana (GOG) and Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) US$10 million Georgetown Sanitation Improvement Programme (GSIP).
According to Orin Browne, Project Manager (GWI) ‘pipe-laying has commenced work from the Princes Street and Louisa Row junction. Pipes will be installed along Louisa Row to the end of Cemetery Road and Sussex Street’.
He further stated that ‘sewer pipes will also be laid along Sussex Street going west to the Sussex and Charles Street Junction’.
GWI is advising all customers residing in or traversing on the aforementioned streets that there will be minor traffic diversion, breaking of roads and noise associated with the use of heavy equipment.
Meanwhile, the company is advising customers from Calcutta to DeHoop, East Coast Demerara, as well as customers of Weldaad and Bath Settlement, West Coast Berbice, that all well stations serving these areas are experiencing low voltage due to generation problems affecting the Guyana Power and Light Company (GPL). This has resulted in reduced levels of water service.
Affected communities include the entire Mahaicony/Mahaica area as well as the Mahaica Hospital.
GWI indicated that it is working closely with GPL to restore normal service and regrets any inconvenience caused.
Customers with concerns or questions can contact GWI’s Customer Service Call Centre on 227-8701/03/04 or e-mail [email protected]. Customers can also post via social media at www.facebook.com/everydropcountsgy
