Dear Editor,
Please refer to a letter which appeared in your Kaieteur News issue of Friday, September 20, 2013: “City Hall’s Town Clerk is persecuted” page 4.
I suspect that R. Williams is an insider with a hidden agenda. Obviously, this would have affected his sense of reasoning and objectivity, and betrayed his hypocritical concern for the Council.
Be that as it may, I wish to make two points:
First, the writer has clearly missed it. The ‘Greens’ are not the problem. It is the woeful lack of the three M’s — Money, Management and Manpower. Even with its meager resources, the City Council is failing miserably to provide core services such as drainage, garbage collection and public health services, to citizens because it is led by an individual who is unfit, unqualified and untrained leading the administration.
Every day, the Council is forced to complain about this officer. She does not understand her role or position. This is evident from all the news reported in the media to the public.
It is true that under the stewardship (or the lack of it) of this acting Town Clerk, the health and wellbeing of the City has declined frightfully. Yet, in the face of it all, the acting Town Clerk is attempting to illegally terminate the contract of one of the garbage contractors, employed by the Mayor and City Council.
Second, on the question of corruption, it must be noted that in every instance where corruption was found and dealt with, it was the elective Council who initiated the process. There is no evidence that the acting Town Clerk has had anything to do with rooting out corruption. It is a falsehood peddled by friends of the acting Town Clerk.
Finally, one would have thought that R. Williams would have, at least, taken the trouble to check the facts before rushing to pen a letter to prop up the acting Town Clerk. What a shame.
The public deserves that respect.
