Chappel Caesar walked a brilliant race to romp home ahead of favourite, Jamal Janeere and take the honours when the Cavalier Sports and Tour Club (CS&TC) staged a 10k race walk event around the Melanie Damishana ECD community Sunday September 22 last. Janeere finished in second place with Tamuel Pile completing
the podium spots.
Romona Janeere was the first female to cross the line with Odessa Beveney and Odessa Moffat filling the second and third place spots respectively, while Shakeida Janeere carted off the spoils in the junior category leaving Clarisa Bunwari and Agape London in her wake
Seventy nine years old Thomas Rouse emulated his feat of the previous event and once again won the veterans’ category ahead of Desiree Armstrong.
Meanwhile, the walkers were refreshed along the journey through the corporate input of Banks DIH Ltd as well as the Chairman of the Buxton/Foulis NDC, Randolph Blair, while trophies and medals were donated by Minister of Amerindian Affairs, Pauline Sukhai, Ricks and Sari Ltd and Chairman of the Green Path Foundation, Charles Griffith. The walkers also benefited from the largesse of the Guyana Tourism Authority which distributed tourism material to all participants and officials.
The walkers will be at it again in another event slated for Sunday September 29 dubbed the ‘Golden Grove Village Walk’ from the President’s College to the Golden Grove Market and back to the place of origin.
