Table Tennis players open bid for glory
Guyana could land its first gold at the 1st South American Youth Games in Lima, Peru today when Travis Fraser takes to the ring in the 69kg final. Fraser drew the bye to the gold medal match and has indicated that he is seeking to bring home the bacon for his country.
His Coach, Wincel Thomas is quietly confident that his charge will
do the job for himself and country. Fraser has been of tremendous assistance to Thomas with the other three boxers as the Assistant Corner man. Now, all the attention will be on him this afternoon.
Meanwhile, Table Tennis will take centre stage for the first time with the Singles competition. Shemar Britton, drawn in Group 2, which has seven (7) players, will play two matches today. First up, he will take on Santiago Kacwicz of Uruguay at 09:30hrs then he will match racquets with Kalvin Shi of Panama at 17:30hrs.
Guyana’s most decorated youth player, Chelsea Edghill, a confident and assertive player, will be matching skills with four (4) other players in Group 1 and will be contesting three matches today.
First up at 10:10hrs, she will play Daniella Ortega of Chile followed by a clash with Candela Molero of Argentina at 16:00hrs. Her final match of the day will be against Daniela Damino of Ecuador at 18:00hrs.
Coach Linden Johnson and his charges have been hard at training every day since arriving and said that he is looking forward to good things form the duo.
Badminton players, Narayan Ramdhani and Ambika Ramraj will be back in action today.
