Winston Stoby lifts today at 5:00pm at the 2013 World Masters Championships which commences today in Orlando Florida at the Hyatt hotel. Stoby departed Guyana yesterday as the defending World Champion in the Masters M2 74kg Category and World record holder in the deadlift 272.5kg.
He is expected to better his personal record with a 277kg attempt achieved at the Local Masters championships in June earlier this year. Youngest lifter, Greg Page of the USA, starts as favorite. Due to inadequate funds the Federation was unable to have a manager/coach accompany him. Despite this set back the Australian team has agreed to assist Stoby as a fellow commonwealth lifter and will be in his corner when he lifts. The GAPLF wishes Stoby all the best and hopes he will be successful in defense of his crown.
