KOs Shawn Cox in first stanza
Caribbean Boxing Federation (CABOFE) heavyweight champion, Barbadian, Shawn ‘The Sniper’ Cox, suffered another setback to his career when he was knocked out in the first round by South African, Danie Venter, when they faced off for the World Boxing Federation (WBF) cruiserweight belt at the Heartfelt Arena in Pretoria, South Africa, Saturday evening last.
Reports of the fight state that Venter put on a fantastic performance, destroying the dangerous Barbadian, minutes into the first round.
The report continued that the bell had barely sounded when the South African rushed out and delivered several crunching blows, one of which sent the CABOFE champion crashing to the canvass. Cox rose before the mandatory count had expired but the South African followed up and finished the fight with some ferocious punching.
Venter has been boxing professionally for ten years after representing his country in the 2000 Sydney Olympics. This is his first major title and he has improved his ledger to 18-6 (13). Cox fought Russian pugilist, Denis Levedev, for the World Boxing Association (WBA) cruiserweight title at the Crocus City Hall, Myakinino, Russia just over a years ago and was also knocked out in round two.
He won CABOFE heavyweight championship after stopping former WBC cruiserweight champion, Wayne ‘Big Truck’ Braithwaite. Cox’s record has since dipped to 17-3 (16). The card was a WBF Championship tripleheader dubbed, ‘No Guts, No Glory,’ promoted by Real Steel Promotions, headed by former world-class Super Middleweight fighter, Andre Thysse.
