The top juniors in the boys and girls 18’s division showed the benefits of playing at a higher level consistently when they cruised into the respective finals of the Courts-sponsored Junior Tennis Tournament which continued on Sunday, at the Racquet Centre.
Gavin Lewis and Daniel Lopes will contest the Boys final, while new kid on the block Afruica Gentle and Nicola Ramdyhan will square off for the Girls title.
Top seed Gavin Lewis showed no mercy when he dished out a 6-1, 6-0 hammering on little know Keshon Beaton who has been gaining valuable experience by competing on the regional circuit.
Beaton was no match for his opponent’s speed, serving skill and powerful ground strokes, all of which is a critical combination to compete on the higher stage, while Lopes was equally dismissive of Craig Campbell, winning 6-1, 6-0.Campbell who is known to most on the circuit for creating the unexpected upset was put to the sword by the ever consistent Lopes.
The match up was predicted to be one of an exciting encounter, but Lopes broke his opponent very early and never looked back and he quickly wrapped up both sets and the match.
Meanwhile, the girls’ final is set after the top two seeded players booked their spot in contrasting styles. Twelve years old Gentle has been creating a buzz on the regional circuit and she showed little mercy in her clash against Johanna Ramsammy, beating her 6-0, 6-0.
Ramdyhan on the other hand did not break a sweat as she gained a walk over from Diana Bharat.
The finals of the 18’s division are slated for this weekend, at the same venue.
