In keeping with its aim to foster the development of the game, Petra Organisation, organisers of the Courts Pee Wee Schools Football Competition in collaboration with the Guyana Coaches Association (GCA) commenced a two-day Beginners Coaching Workshop for teachers and coaches responsible for preparing the teams
participating in the upcoming tournament.
The Workshop which is being conducted by personnel from the GCA started yesterday at the Ministry of Education Ground and is expected to conclude today and among the topics that are being discussed are: the role of the coaches and age related exercise, Environment Health and Safety, Practical Warm Up, Practical Fun Games, Nutrition and Hydration, Injury prevention and Treatment and Technical Development.
In opening remarks, Co-Director of Petra Troy Mendonca stressed the need for the players to be prepared under proper conditions. He also emphasised the importance of stakeholders adopting a more proactive approach and utilise whatever resources are available. Mendonca urged the participants to be very receptive at the seminar even though it is being conducted by local personnel, while promising the Organisation input in spearheading a collaborative effort that will involve all stake holders in addressing the apparent absence of a proper structure within the youth system.
