Berbice Bridge Company 50-Over Final…
Tomorrow is the day and the Cumberland ground is the venue for the much anticipated final of the 2013 Berbice Bridge Company First Division 50-Over Cricket Competition in Berbice.
A keen tussle is expected between the two finalists, Young Warriors Universal DVD and Albion Community Centre, even though both teams will be missing some of their stalwarts.
Even though, however, Albion will be without West Indies middle order batsman, Narsingh Deonarine, and West Indies A left-arm spinner, Veerasammy Permaul, who are both in India presently with the West Indies A team, they will start as favourites especially with the return of former West Indies and right arm leg-spinner, Devendra Bishoo, and West Indies under-19 selectee, Gudakesh Motie, scheduled to return today from the WICB spin bowling camp.
Their bowling will be backed up by off-spinners, Andre Percival, who is also the team coach, former Guyana under-17 all-rounder Veerapen Permaul, Sharaz Ramcharran and the part time but very economical right-arm leg-spinner, former test batsman Sewnarine Chattergoon. Their batting will be led by Chattergoon, former Guyana T20 batting star Jonathan Foo, their new recruit, Guyana wicket-keeper batsman Anthony Bramble, Ramcharran, Permaul, Percival and Kandasammy Surujnarine.
Young Warriors for their part will sorely miss the services of their two former Guyana batsmen, Gajanand Singh and Richard Ramdeen, who are both in the U.S.A but with a proven good home record at Cumberland, having defeated both Albion and Rose Hall Town Gizmos and Gadgets there last year to become the 2012 Ramcharitar Construction Services knock-out Champions. They can prove a handful for Albion especially if they allow the hard hitting West Indies under-19 selectee, the 17 year-old opening batsman Shimron Hetmyer to get going.
They have three other batsmen who have represented Guyana at the youth level namely Seon Hetmyer, Linden Austin and Kevin Ramdeen. They will be backed up by Vishal Mohabir, Mortimer Fraser, Khemraj Sumair, Suresh Dhanai and wicket-keeper-batsman, Ishwar Singh. They will come strong with their spin attack with the in-form leg-spinner Ramdeen and left-arm spinner, Karamchand Ramnarine, together with the ‘old warriors’ off-spinner Hubern Evans and left-arm spinner, Anil Beharry. They also have the medium pacers Suresh Dhanai, Kassim Khan and Vishal Mohabir.
The umpires officiating are Imran Moakan and Zaheer Moakan with Clement Brusche, the standby.
The match is scheduled to start at 9:30 a.m. Officials of the Berbice Cricket Board and the Berbice Bridge Company Inc. are expected to reach the teams just before the commencement of play.
