St Roses/ St Agnes “war over space” soon to be over – Education Ministry

After much criticism and two picketing exercises by students of St. Agnes Primary School and their parents over the space occupied in the main building of St. Rose’s High School, it appears that a solution is imminent.
A statement issued by the Ministry of Education yesterday indicated that an agreement on how the shared space would be utilised was reached by the staff, the Parent Teacher Association and the Board Members of the two schools.
The statement said that the matter was discussed “amicably but robustly” by all parties present.
The meeting, it said, was held in the Education Ministry’s boardroom, facilitated and chaired by Minister Priya Manickchand, where it was established that the input of all parties must be in the best interest of the children in both schools.
It was brought out that while the Government is constructing six new classrooms for St. Agnes Primary School, six of its current classrooms will be housed at St. Angela’s and St. Ambrose Primary Schools temporarily until said construction is completed.
It was noted that the Minister used the opportunity to express her disappointment at the “behaviour of some of the adults involved in the matter” and said that she is concerned that the “unwholesome behaviour” could be a bad example to the children. However, she indicated that she is “very pleased that the parties were able to reach an agreement in a civilised fashion”.
Following the decisions made, the Executive of the St. Agnes PTA requested that parents attend an emergency meeting today at 16:00 hours.
