As crime threatens to get out of control, the police appear to be turning up the heat on criminals in the city, confiscating two illegal .38 revolvers in three hours.
One of the weapons was recovered during a routine stop and search operation early yesterday morning, while the other was seized following a robbery.
Police in a press release stated that at about 22:30 hours on Monday, two men, one of whom was armed with a handgun, entered Kamboat Restaurant on Sheriff Street, Georgetown, and held up the cashier and several patrons. They took away a cell phone and an undisclosed amount of cash and escaped. However, they did not get very far as a police patrol that was in the vicinity, responded and one of the suspects was arrested in Garnett Street with a .38 revolver.
The man is in police custody and charges will be made shortly.
Then three hours later, police ranks stopped and searched motor car HB 1140 at Avenue of the Republic, Georgetown, during which they found a .38 Taurus Revolver with three rounds.
Four men who were in the vehicle have been arrested and are in police custody.
Again, according to the police, charges will be made shortly.
