Peter Abdool has received a resounding vote of confidence and was reinstated as the President of the Guyana Boxing Board of Control (GBBC) when officials of that organization convened at the Thomas Road, Thomas lands office of the Civil Defence Commission, Sunday morning last.
There were little changes in the executive structure which saw former head of the Mingles band, Michael Fung, being co-opted into the membership and forms a part of the marketing committee. Further, former auditor of the Board, Khalil Ahmed, also assumed a membership portfolio and officials say they will soon name the new auditor.
Those retaining their positions are Andrew Thorne (vice president), Francis Abraham (secretary), Clairmont DeSouza (treasurer) and Howard Cox (assistant Secretary/treasurer). The other members are Eon Jardine, Bernard DeSantos and Trevor Arno. Patricia Green and Max Hanoman have been retained as the nurse and doctor respectively.
Meanwhile, in brief comments yesterday, Mr. Abdool conveyed his gratitude to the other members for the faith placed in his leadership ability. He said that he will aspire to endorse their confidence with various initiatives that will improve the fortunes of local pugilists. Mr. Abdool said that officials will soon convene to map out strategies towards the development of the sport.
Former secretary of the GBBC, Trevor Arno said that while the Board has no official Marketing Manager, Mr. Fung’s presence could considerably boost that sector.
